Presentation Skills

  • Presenting a prepared piece on a work-related topic selected by the participant.

N.B. The time allocated to each presentation is determined by the course duration and class size, with eight participants being ideal.

  • Comprehensive feedback provided both individually and to the group.

Preparing a Presentation

  • Key questions a presenter should consider beforehand:
    • Why am I the right person to speak?
    • Logistics: what, where, when, how, and for how long?
    • Recognising how these factors influence the overall structure.
  • Organising the content:
    • Researching thoroughly to master the subject matter.
    • Arranging information in a logical sequence.
    • Designing and incorporating effective visual aids.

Preparing the Presenter

  • Mastering the three core communication channels:
    • Verbal: choosing precise language and avoiding slang or jargon.
    • Vocal: controlling tone and eliminating distracting verbal habits or tics.
    • Visual: presenting a professional appearance, appropriate dress, and confident body language.
  • Rehearsing the talk and seeking candid input from trusted colleagues.
  • Strategies for managing performance anxiety.

Preparing the Environment

  • Arranging the room layout and understanding the implicit messages it sends to the audience.
  • Optimising the space to enhance the overall presentation experience.

Presentation Skills – Revisited

  • Delivering a further presentation after allowing sufficient time for preparation.

N.B. This may involve revising the initial presentation based on the detailed feedback received.

  • Comprehensive feedback provided both individually and to the group.
